What Your Vacation Says About Your Leadership

Summer is one of the best times of the year. It gives us a chance to slow down, spend time with family, and provides a break from the daily routine.
Over the years, I've come to appreciate this time even more. I've also learned that it is easier to enjoy the time away when you're not worried about what is happening at work.
I've worked with leaders who struggle to disconnect because they feel like they need to be involved in every decision and solve every problem. Sometimes this is because they don't have trust in their team. But it is also possible that they haven't given their team the opportunity to step up.
When leaders can't disconnect, they return to work feeling as though they didn't get the break they were looking forward to and the team misses the opportnity to grow.
Instead of wondering how the team will manage while you are out of the office next time, ask yourself, "What can I do to help the team be more confident?"
Question to consider: If you unplugged for a week, would your team know what to do?
