What Your Calendar Says About Your Priorities

It's easy to say what is important to us. We want to spend more time with family, be better leaders, exercise more, maybe grow our business. But if you look at your calendar, does it tell the same story?

For me, if it's not on my calendar, it is unlikely to happen. Life has a way of getting in my way.

If developing your team is a priority, schedule 1:1 meetings with each team member. If strategic thinking is important to you, block time on your calendar. And don't forget your personal priorities. Family dinners, workouts, date nights, and even downtime all deserve a place on your calendar, too.

No one gets the balance right every week. I know I certainly don't. But I do try to make sure my calendar reflects not only my business priorities but what is important in my life.

Take a few moments to look at your calendar and ask yourself:

  • Does my calendar reflect what is most important to me?

  • Have I made time to develop my team?

  • Have a protected time for the people and things that matter most outside of work?

Leadership Challenge:

Choose one work priority and one personal priority you've been putting off and schedule time for both this week. If it matters, make time for it.
